What Do You Need To Know About Miscarriage?


In Malaysia, loss of a pregnancy in the period of less than 22 weeks of gestation or a foetus weighing less than 500g is considered as miscarriage. It is the most common complication of early pregnancy. The majority (80%) occurs in early pregnancy (9th-13th weeks).


Symptoms of miscarriage

The main sign of a miscarriage is vaginal bleeding, which may be followed by cramping and pain in lower abdomen. It is advised to contact your doctors if symptoms of miscarriage occur. However, need not to worry much if there is light vaginal bleeding. This is relatively common during the first trimester (first 3 months) of pregnancy and does not necessarily mean a miscarriage occurred. 


What causes a miscarriage?

There are many reasons causing a miscarriage, some may even not be identifiable. However, thankfully, there are still several insights on what causes a miscarriage according to several evidence.


How to prevent a miscarriage?

Majority of the miscarriage cannot be prevented. Fortunately, there are still some things that you can do to the modifiable risk factors- practising good nutrition.
